3 Ways to Avoid Slapping the Sh*t Outta Someone at the Oscars (or anywhere else)

By now, you've probably seen 'the slap' heard around the world. Respected actor, rapper, author and global superstar Will Smith defended his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith when Chris Rock joked about her bald head at the 2022 Oscar's. What many didn't know was that Jada has been dealing with alopecia. For that reason, the joke didn't go over so well.

Whether you agree with the slap or not, we're pretty sure he wished he could've had Ketanji Brown Jackson's level of composure. However, we all find ourselves in those moments where you literally have to keep it together... and it ain't easy! We've ALL been there!

That's why we've compiled a list of a three ways you can avoid slapping the sh*t out of someone in your daily life. The three ways are:

  1. Meditation

  2. Restful Sleep

  3. Exercise

1. Meditation

Taking a moment to meditate everyday can significantly reduce your likelihood to slap someone. Why? When you meditate, you are allowing yourself to be present and relax in your breath. Meditation allows us to be aware of how we feel and connect with what is going on internally. Here's some tips for meditation:

  • Find a quiet space or use noise cancelling headphones

  • Focus on your breath

  • Acknowledge your thoughts, but do not allow them to stick around

Take a moment for yourself. Here's a 25 minute meditation we recommend before beginning your day.

2. Restful Sleep

Did you know over 60% of adults experience sleep problems at some point in their life? The truth is: good sleep can change lives. With a good night's sleep, you can:

  • Boost your immune system

  • Better your mood

  • Increase productivity

  • Improve memory

In other words, sleep is literally everything. If you aren't getting enough of it, you will VERY likely have a deeper urge to slap someone.

3. Exercise

When we don't exercise, our bodies hold a lot of energy that doesn't have an outlet. Exercise is clearly good for our health and body, but it is also great for our mental health. Exercising allows us to actively practice:

  • Pushing ourselves,

  • Perseverance and

  • Discipline.

All of these things can greatly help with your mood and body. Hopefully, after exercising, you won't have the energy to slap anyone.
